September is special. Why? Because September 30th is International Translation Day. But at Bureau Works, we thought, why limit the festivities to just one day? So, we dedicated the entire month to our incredible translators and the world they bridge. But before sharing curiosities and fun content about translation, let me share some thoughts about our beloved profession.

We feature in this article:

  • Our view on what is happening in our translators' lives through 'The Paradox of Our Times.'
  • Our suggestion to improve translators' lives through 'The Power of Togetherness.'
  • Creative content we published throughout the month to reach a broader audience about translator culture.
  • The Future.

Let's get started!

The Paradox of Our Times

Despite all the tech connecting us out there, it's ironic how many feel more disconnected than ever. This isn't just about missing Friday night hangouts; it's affecting our work and mental well-being.

Work pressures, the daily hustle, and the isolating experience of remote work often pull us apart. And even in the world of translation, where effective communication is key, we sometimes stumble. But as Confucius wisely said, clarity in language is crucial, and it echoes in our work relationships.

Okay, this issue affects many other professions, and while our profession has always had an element of solitude, it's still something we need to discuss and explore alternatives for, right?

The Power of Togetherness

That’s why we are celebrating togetherness this month. In order to promote such a deep topic, we are mixing creativity with expert opinions to shed light on that. We created a whole month of celebration.

Whether you are a freelance translator networking with peers remotely or an agency, connecting to a community is priceless. We asked some of our translators to weigh in on how they benefit from community and what togetherness means to them – here is what they said:

Kelsey Frick and Anikó Pető-Mordovski - co-founders of Team Translators

Cynthia Farber

Nicole Fenwick (Chartered Linguist)

The concept behind togetherness

You may have noticed that all the posts above follow the same visual, right? That's because the entire celebration is centered around the concept:

"Translation is the tree of mutual understanding"

Since translation is a tree of mutual understanding, we played with the theme, creating some graphics that were used throughout the month:

Here’s a Glimpse of Our September Festivities!

Our team really got into the heart of translation this month. Take a look at what we created to celebrate Translator Day.

We played with soccer slogans, giving them a translator's touch
Ever thought of which SciFi characters would make good translators? We did, and the results were fun, thank you Multilingual for the insight
Plus, we celebrated unsung heroines with our spotlight on some truly remarkable women in translation.
International Day of Sign Language

So, here's a toast to translators, the worlds they connect. Cheers to a month of translation and togetherness! By the way, you can check all the fun content we published on Linkedin navigating through our and yours hash tag #TranslationTogethernessMonth:

The Future

Wrapping up our Translation Togetherness month, there's no ignoring the buzz around AI in the translation world. The landscape is shifting and yes, some parts of a translator's life may change change.

But before we get carried away with AI vs. Humans debates, let's clear the air: AI is crafted by us, for us. It's not here to replace us but to serve us. As our main man, Gabriel Fairman, the brain behind Bureau Works, puts it: “The deeper we get into tech, the more we realize it's actually about human beings.”

So, the playbook for the future? Dive deep into AI, understand its ropes, and be transparent with our clients about the real deal - the pros, the cons, and everything in between.

Looking ahead, let's not forget the essence. Stay curious, keep it fun, and always remember: at the end of the day, it's all about the people. Here’s to more adventures in the world of translation!
