We are excited to announce that Bureau Works has been named a finalist in the 17th Process Innovation Challenge (PIC) at LocWorld52 in Silicon Valley!

This year, our latest technological breakthrough, Sous-Chef, has been recognized for its innovative approach to preserving the editorial finesse in translation, helping make the process more efficient and ensuring human creativity is maintained in every project. You can read more about the competition and our recognition here.

To provide more insight into this achievement, we talked with Gabriel Fairman, our CEO, to discuss what this recognition means for the team and the innovation behind Sous-Chef.

Interviewer: Congratulations on being named a finalist in the 17th Process Innovation Challenge at LocWorld52! How does it feel to be back in the spotlight?

Gabriel Fairman: Thank you! It feels amazing to be recognized again. The Process Innovation Challenge is such a great platform to showcase forward-thinking ideas, and we’re excited to be part of it for the second year in a row. Being a finalist is a big honor for the whole team at Bureau Works.

Interviewer: Last year, Bureau Works won the "Innovator of the Year – USA Award" for your Generative Language Engine - Translation Smells. How does this year’s innovation, Sous-Chef, build on that success?

Gabriel Fairman: Last year’s win was a huge milestone for us, and it really validated the direction we were taking with AI in translation. Sous-Chef takes that innovation to the next level. While Translation Smells focused on identifying potential issues in translation, Sous-Chef goes deeper by capturing the subtle editorial decisions that translators make—like adjusting tone, style, or making text more accessible. It’s about preserving the human touch and making it part of the translation process for future use, across different markets and cultures.

Interviewer: Can you explain what sets Sous-Chef apart from traditional translation tools?

Gabriel Fairman: Traditional translation tools are great at remembering specific words or phrases, but they don’t capture the deeper, editorial decisions that give translations their flavor. Sous-Chef does exactly that—it tracks and maps these micro-textual choices, like making something more casual or formal, and integrates them into future translations. It’s like having a recipe for every piece of content you translate, and that recipe gets passed down and perfected over time.

Interviewer: What impact do you see Sous-Chef having on the translation industry?

Gabriel Fairman: The impact is huge. By cutting down editing time by 50% and improving the consistency of translations, we’re saving time, money, and most importantly, enhancing the quality of translations. This is especially valuable in a global market where tone and style can make or break a brand’s message. Sous-Chef ensures that human creativity isn’t lost in the translation process, but instead becomes an integral part of it.

Interviewer: What’s next for Bureau Works as you prepare for the final round at LocWorld52?

Gabriel Fairman: We’re excited to present Sous-Chef at the final round and showcase how it’s already making a difference. Our team is working hard to prepare, and we’re looking forward to connecting with other innovators and leaders in the industry. It’s all about pushing boundaries and showing the world that translation technology can evolve to capture human ingenuity.

Interviewer: Best of luck in the final competition, Gabriel! We’ll be rooting for you.

Gabriel Fairman: Thank you so much! We appreciate the support and are excited to see where this journey takes us.
